Robert John Black
1943 – 2009

 

Bob BlackRobert John Black, 65, a resident of Weatherby Lake, MO, passed away peacefully, January 22, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 31, 1943 in Detroit, MI, to James Forrest Black and his wife Bernadette.

He graduated in 1961 from Jesuit High School in Dallas, TX, and subsequently received his BA from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, and his MBA from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Bob was the loving husband of Colleen Carter Black. They were married on December 28, 1984 in Chicago, IL.

Bob was the Owner of Lightbulbs etc. and lightbulbsdirect.com in Lenexa, KS. He was a long time lover of acoustic music and a founding member of The Blackbury Band. He was a longtime member of the Brookridge Golf Club in Overland Park, KS and a member of HABOT, a blue grass club. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he earned the rank of Captain during the Vietnam War, and received the Bronze Star. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Hamilton Black.

Bob is survived by his adoring wife Colleen of Weatherby Lake, MO; four daughters: Jennifer Black (Dan Cook) Brooklyn, NY; Maureen Black, Los Angeles, CA; Lisa Solomon, Lee's Summit, MO; Amy Derning, Independence, MO; a son, Sean Eric Derning (Tracy), Lawrence, KS; a brother, Kenneth Black, Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Joan Austin, San Antonio, TX, Kathy Wheelock, Los Angeles, CA; three grandchildren, Brady Fuqua, Sam Derning and Keegan Derning.
